COUNTY
WEXFORD NOT EVEN ON IDA’S RADAR SCREEN
Despite
having unemployment above the national average, having
increased 180% since the last general election, County
Wexford has not received a single site visit by the IDA
this year.
In figures released this week, the Industrial
Development Authority brought potential employers all
over the country but not one single employer was brought
to Co. Wexford. Waterford City has had three site
visits, Carlow two site visits, Dungarvan one site visit
but although Wexford has a crying need for industrial
jobs, it is clear that we are to be given no priority by
those charged with bringing direct foreign investment to
this country.
Co. Wexford has been ignored by this government. They
plan to close our rail link next month. We are the only
county on the east coast without natural gas and even
our central services are under attack.
I demand that state agencies give the priority to job
creation in Co. Wexford as the massive increase in
unemployment requires. I call on the IDA to set out a
schedule of site visits for the remainder of the year
for the available employment sites in this county.
